About the Role
Our client is seeking a meticulous and experienced Database Administrator (DBA) to manage and maintain their critical database systems in Derby . This role is vital for ensuring the performance, integrity, security, and availability of all company databases. You will be responsible for database installation, configuration, upgrades, monitoring, and troubleshooting. The ideal candidate has a strong background in relational database management and a proactive approach to system maintenance and optimization.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, upgrade, and patch database management systems (e.g., SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL).
- Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement tuning strategies to optimize query execution and resource utilization.
- Implement and manage robust backup and recovery procedures to ensure data integrity and business continuity.
- Ensure database security by implementing access controls, user management, and auditing measures.
- Perform regular database maintenance tasks, including data archiving and index management.
- Provide technical support for database-related issues and collaborate with development teams to ensure efficient data access and manipulation.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience as a Database Administrator.
- Strong proficiency in SQL and experience with at least one major RDBMS (e.g., Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL).
- Experience with database performance tuning, backup and recovery strategies, and security best practices.
- Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Bash) for automation is a plus.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail, particularly for database operations in Derby .
