Viridien / CGG is recruiting for the role of Database Engineer (MongoDB, Postgres). Database Engineer needed to design, maintain and optimise database platforms for production systems and high-performance computing workloads. The role centres on MongoDB and relational databases, with close work across software and infrastructure teams to improve performance and reliability.

What you’ll do
- Manage, maintain and support MongoDB and relational database environments.
- Install, configure and administer MongoDB sharded clusters and replica sets.
- Support PostgreSQL day-to-day administration, backup and recovery.
- Monitor database health, performance and availability using the named tools.
- Analyse and optimise database performance, queries and configurations.
- Implement backup, restore, Point-in-Time Recovery and High Availability solutions.
- Work with development teams to improve database design and application performance.
- Support testing, validation and quality assurance activities for database changes.
What they’re looking for
- Hold a bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Have proven production experience administering MongoDB, including sharded clusters and replica sets.
- Have experience supporting PostgreSQL or other enterprise relational databases.
- Have experience with MongoDB Ops Manager and monitoring tools such as Prometheus and Grafana.
- Understand database backup, recovery, PITR and High Availability strategies.
- Have experience troubleshooting and optimising database performance.
- Have strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Be able to work effectively in production-critical environments.
Additional role information
- The team supports Viridien's global software and HPC environments.
- Preferred experience includes database automation with Bash, Python or Golang.
- Familiarity with Linux, Docker, Kubernetes, GitLab or DevOps practices is preferred.
- Knowledge of data modelling, schema design and database optimisation techniques is preferred.
