Job Description
The Role
Our client is a well-established engineering and manufacturing business producing specialist, technically demanding products for a range of applications.
Due to continued growth, they are looking for an experienced Design Applications Engineer to join their engineering team.
The successful candidate will take ownership of customer-specific engineering projects, working from the initial requirements through to design, development, build, testing and delivery.
The role is varied and hands-on, combining project management, mechanical engineering, CAD and technical problem solving.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage customer-specific modifications and engineering projects from initial brief through to completion
- Develop and adapt existing designs to meet specific customer requirements
- Carry out integration and feasibility studies
- Manage project budgets, bills of materials and technical documentation
- Work closely with customers, sales and internal engineering teams to develop suitable technical solutions
- Support the certification and approval of designs where required
- Provide technical support to production and commercial teams
- Liaise with suppliers on technical and engineering matters
- Produce, maintain and manage detailed assembly and manufacturing drawings
- Support the build, testing and commissioning of projects
- Identify opportunities for product improvements and engineering development
- Provide hands-on technical support and problem solving throughout the manufacturing process
- Ensure projects are delivered to the required quality and technical standards
Candidate Requirements Degree-level engineering qualification preferred, or equivalent relevant experience Minimum 5 years' experience within an Applications Engineer or similar engineering position Advanced 3D CAD experience, ideally Siemens NX Strong understanding of component and assembly modelling and technical drawing Strong mechanical engineering knowledge Experience working with mechanical systems Good understanding of manufacturing and fabrication processes Experience working with fabricated components in steel, aluminium and plastics Knowledge of composite materials Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills Confident communicator with the ability to work effectively with customers, suppliers and internal teams Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of projects
