Design Engineer

Design Engineer Lancaster, Lancashire | Permanent | Full Time Up to £40k

Fancy owning a product from the very first sketch right through to the production line? This is a great opportunity to join an established, quality-focused manufacturer in Lancaster, working as part of a close-knit engineering team where your ideas genuinely shape what gets made.

What you'll be doing

You'll manage new product development and modifications to existing products across the full lifecycle, from initial brief and quotation through feasibility, R&D and into production. Day to day that looks like:

• Working with Sales at quotation stage to clarify specs, flag critical design requirements and assess feasibility
• Generating design ideas and developing them into full detailed specifications, with the chance to identify opportunities for patent protection
• Using feedback from the field and current production methods to keep improving the product range
• Carrying out risk analysis and Design/Process FMEAs
• Running verification testing on prototype and pre-production parts, plus validation to make sure manufacturing processes are capable
• Planning projects, setting milestones and keeping everything on track for time, cost and spec
• Organising procurement of components, tooling and prototype samples
• Keeping accurate records in line with ISO quality standards, and challenging existing methods where there's a better way backed by data

What you'll bring

• HND/HNC or degree in Product Design, Industrial Design, Design Engineering or similar
• At least 3 years' engineering experience
• Strong 3D CAD skills (SolidWorks preferred)
• Project management and planning experience
• A solid understanding of Design for Manufacture
• Experience with FMEA and risk analysis
• Validation experience (IQ, OQ, PQ or APQP)

Nice to have

• Injection moulded component design and injection moulding knowledge
• Experience working within ISO 9001 or ISO 13485 quality systems
