Drainage Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a specialised Drainage Engineer to join their prominent engineering consultancy based in Portsmouth . This role is crucial for developing sustainable and effective drainage strategies for a variety of development projects. You will be responsible for the design, implementation, and management of surface water and foul water drainage systems, ensuring compliance with current regulations and environmental best practices. Working closely with other engineering disciplines, you will contribute to the successful delivery of projects that enhance the water management infrastructure in Portsmouth and the wider Hampshire region.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and model surface water drainage systems, including SUDS (Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems).
• Develop foul water drainage designs and manage sewer networks.
• Prepare drainage impact assessments (DIAs) and flood risk assessments (FRAs).
• Liaise with statutory bodies such as the Environment Agency and Local Authorities regarding drainage approvals.
• Produce detailed drawings, calculations, and specifications for drainage schemes.
• Provide technical advice and support on drainage matters to clients and project teams.

Requirements

• Degree in Civil Engineering or a related environmental engineering discipline.
• Minimum of 3-5 years' experience in drainage engineering design.
• Proficiency with drainage design software (e.g., MicroDrainage, SWMM) and AutoCAD.
• Good understanding of Flood Risk Assessments, Water Resources Act, and relevant UK drainage standards.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
