Job Description
Our client, a leader in the Transmission & Distribution (T&D) sector, is currently seeking an EHV Commissioning Manager for an important contract role in Teesside. This position entails managing the end-to-end commissioning of the NZT OSBL 275 kV XLPE cable system, including all associated systems and interfaces.
Key Responsibilities
Act as the technical authority for the 275 kV cable-system commissioning from planning through to acceptance. Manage the commissioning strategy, execution plan, and deliverables schedule. Attend project and client meetings and represent the company at National Grid commissioning panels. Coordinate interfaces with BP, National Grid, OEMs, and other stakeholders. Ensure all commissioning activities comply with statutory requirements and client-specific standards. Lead commissioning tests, including visual checks, conductor continuity, insulation checks, and AC withstand testing. Evaluate test data, diagnose anomalies, and direct fault investigations. Coordinate with other teams for seamless commissioning with adjacent systems and substation interfaces.
Job Requirements:
Experience as a TP141 Commissioning Engineer, with authorisation or equivalent qualifications. Strong background in EHV cable systems and transmission-class systems at 275 kV and/or 400 kV. Familiarity with National Grid safety, outage, and energisation processes. Proven ability to lead and manage commissioning programmes and documentation. Competence in interpreting complex test data and leading technical investigations. Detailed understanding of transmission safety rules and permit-to-work procedures.
Desirable Skills:
Current National Grid TP141 authorisation. Experience with SCADA, telecoms, and substation commissioning. Familiarity with energy-sector permit and handover processes.
Staff & Labour Management:
Coordinate commissioning labour and test providers per the approved programme. Ensure all personnel are competent, briefed, and authorized for commissioning activities. Lead pre-test briefings, toolbox talks, and monitor team performance.
