Electrical Design Engineer - Building Services

About the Role

Our client is seeking a meticulous Electrical Design Engineer to join their Building Services team in Plymouth . This role is central to the design and specification of electrical systems for a variety of construction projects, including commercial, residential, and public buildings. You will work closely with architects, structural engineers, and project managers to ensure electrical installations are safe, efficient, and compliant with all relevant standards. This position requires a dedicated engineer who can contribute to innovative design solutions within a collaborative, site-focused team environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and specify electrical building services, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and security systems.
• Produce detailed electrical schematics , layouts, and calculations using industry-standard software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit MEP).
• Ensure all designs comply with relevant building regulations, IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671), and other applicable standards.
• Liaise with clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies to ensure project requirements are met.
• Conduct site surveys and inspections to verify installation progress and quality.
• Assist in the preparation of tender documents and project cost estimations.

Requirements

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering, or equivalent qualification.
• Proven experience in the design of electrical systems for building services .
• Proficiency in using electrical design software such as AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and Amtech.
• Thorough understanding of BS 7671 and other relevant building codes and standards.
• Experience in project management and coordination is advantageous.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration.
