Electrical Design Engineer - Building Services

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Electrical Design Engineer with a focus on Building Services to join their established engineering consultancy in Birmingham . This role is central to designing innovative and sustainable electrical systems for a diverse range of commercial, industrial, and residential projects. You will be responsible for producing detailed design documentation, specifications, and calculations that meet client requirements and regulatory standards, ensuring that all electrical installations are safe, efficient, and compliant. Working within a collaborative team, you will play a key role in shaping the built environment through expert electrical design solutions delivered directly from our client's central Birmingham office.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop electrical design concepts and detailed drawings for building services, including lighting, power distribution, and fire alarm systems.
• Prepare technical specifications, schedules, and bill of quantities for electrical installations.
• Conduct load calculations, cable sizing, and equipment selection for various building types.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant UK building regulations, BS 7671, and other industry standards.
• Coordinate electrical designs with other disciplines such as mechanical, structural, and architectural teams.
• Undertake site visits for surveys, inspections, and to liaise with contractors during the construction phase.

Requirements

• Degree or HND/HNC in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.
• At least 5 years of experience in electrical design within the building services sector.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and ideally Revit MEP for BIM projects.
• Solid understanding of low voltage electrical systems, emergency lighting, and earthing requirements.
• Knowledge of energy efficiency standards and sustainable design principles.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective team collaboration.
