About the Role
Our client is seeking a skilled Electrical Design Engineer to join their esteemed Building Services team in Edinburgh . This hybrid role involves designing and specifying electrical systems for a diverse range of commercial, residential, and public sector buildings. You will work closely with architects, mechanical engineers, and project managers to deliver integrated and energy-efficient building designs. The role requires a strong understanding of electrical installation standards and building regulations, with a commitment to sustainable design practices. You will contribute to creating safe, functional, and aesthetically pleasing environments through expert electrical engineering solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design electrical systems for new builds and refurbishments, including lighting, power distribution, fire alarms, and security systems.
- Produce detailed drawings, specifications, and calculations using industry-standard software.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant building regulations (e.g., Part M, Part P of the Building Regulations) and BS 7671.
- Liaise with clients, contractors, and statutory authorities throughout the project lifecycle.
- Conduct site visits for surveys, inspections, and to support installation teams.
- Assess energy efficiency options and incorporate sustainable design principles into projects.
Requirements
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.
- At least 3 years of experience in electrical design for building services.
- Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD) and electrical design tools.
- Good knowledge of building regulations, IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671), and CIBSE guidelines.
- Familiarity with lighting design principles and emergency lighting systems.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective team collaboration.
