Electrical Design Engineer - Building Services

About the Role

Our client, a respected consultancy based in Cambridge , is actively recruiting for an adaptable Electrical Design Engineer specializing in building services. This hybrid position involves creating and implementing electrical design solutions for a variety of prestigious projects, from initial concept through to project completion. You will collaborate closely with architects, M&E coordinators, and project teams, balancing site presence with remote design work. This role offers an excellent platform for a skilled engineer to contribute to impactful projects within a structured, yet flexible, working environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and specify electrical systems including power distribution, lighting, emergency systems, and IT infrastructure for building projects.
• Develop detailed electrical drawings, calculations, and specifications using industry-standard software packages.
• Ensure designs meet all relevant national and international standards, codes, and regulations, including BS 7671 .
• Coordinate electrical designs with other building services disciplines and structural elements.
• Manage project deliverables, deadlines, and client communications effectively.
• Conduct site surveys and inspections to inform design and verify installation quality.

Requirements

• Degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical design for building services.
• Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit MEP) and electrical design calculation tools.
• Comprehensive knowledge of building regulations, energy efficiency standards, and electrical safety legislation.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, enabling effective collaboration in a hybrid work setting.
