Electrical Engineer - Power Systems (Oil & Gas)

About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled Electrical Engineer to join their project team in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, UK . This role is focused on the design, specification, and implementation of electrical power systems for Oil & Gas facilities, ensuring reliable and safe power distribution. You will be involved in everything from high-voltage substations to low-voltage distribution, working closely with project engineers and operations teams. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of electrical engineering principles as applied to industrial and offshore environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and specify electrical systems, including power generation, distribution, motor control centers (MCCs), and switchgear.
• Develop single-line diagrams, electrical layouts, and load calculations.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant international codes and standards (e.g., IEC, IEEE, NEC).
• Perform load flow studies , short circuit analysis, and protection coordination studies.
• Collaborate with other engineering disciplines, project managers, and vendors.
• Provide technical support during procurement, construction, and commissioning phases.

Requirements

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical engineering within the Oil & Gas sector or heavy industrial applications.
• Proven experience in designing and specifying electrical power systems for hazardous areas.
• Proficiency with electrical design software (e.g., ETAP, PSS/E, AutoCAD Electrical).
• Solid understanding of high-voltage systems , protection relays, and grounding principles.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
