Energy Trader - Wholesale Markets

About the Role

Our client is seeking a sharp and experienced Energy Trader to operate within the fast-paced wholesale energy markets, based in our Belfast office with hybrid flexibility. This critical role involves managing the buying and selling of energy commodities, optimising trading strategies to maximise profitability while managing risk effectively. You will be responsible for monitoring market fluctuations, executing trades, and contributing to the development of sophisticated trading models. This position requires a deep understanding of energy market dynamics and a proven ability to make sound, timely decisions under pressure.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute trades for electricity, gas, and other energy products in wholesale markets.
• Monitor market trends, news, and economic factors influencing energy prices.
• Develop and implement trading strategies to achieve optimal market positions and profitability.
• Manage and mitigate trading risks, adhering to established risk management frameworks.
• Analyse trading performance and provide regular reports to management.
• Build and maintain relationships with key market participants and brokers.

Requirements

• Degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
• Proven experience as an energy trader or in a similar financial trading role within the energy sector.
• In-depth knowledge of energy markets, trading mechanisms, and regulatory environments.
• Strong analytical skills and proficiency in financial modelling.
• Excellent decision-making capabilities and the ability to perform under pressure.
