Energy Trading Analyst

About the Role

Our client is seeking a quantitative and analytical Energy Trading Analyst to join their trading desk in Portsmouth . This role is integral to optimizing the buying and selling of energy commodities, managing risk, and maximizing profitability in dynamic market conditions. You will leverage market data, forecasting tools, and analytical models to inform trading strategies and provide critical insights to the trading team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of energy markets, excellent analytical capabilities, and a keen eye for detail, contributing to the commercial success of our client within the competitive energy trading landscape .

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze market data, trends, and news to identify trading opportunities and risks across various energy markets (e.g., power, gas, carbon).
• Develop and maintain forecasting models for energy prices, demand, and supply.
• Support the trading team with real-time market analysis and trade execution.
• Monitor and manage the company's risk exposure in the energy markets.
• Prepare regular reports and presentations on market performance, trading strategies, and risk positions.
• Collaborate with risk management and commercial teams to ensure alignment with business objectives.

Requirements

• Degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
• Proven experience (2+ years) in energy trading, market analysis, or a related role within the energy sector .
• Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with proficiency in statistical analysis and modeling.
• Familiarity with energy market fundamentals, trading mechanisms, and regulatory environments.
• Advanced proficiency in Excel and experience with data analysis tools or programming languages (e.g., Python, R) is advantageous.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
