England Men's Physical Preparation Coach - Young Lions

PURPOSE

An exciting opportunity to become a Mens Pathway Physical Preparation Coach, supporting high-potential players across the England Mens Pathway. The role will maximise player physical preparation, development and availability in combination with ECB Science, Medicine and Physical Performance colleagues, England Mens Pathway coaches, and counties across preparation and performance phases.

The Mens Pathway programme provides an inspirational development environment with competitive exposure for players deemed to have the highest potential to represent England Men in the future, as well as players showing clear potential to progress within the domestic game.

The Mens Pathway Physical Preparation Coach will co-deliver individuals physical development programmes, ensuring preparation and performance are delivered to the highest standards. They will maintain regular connection with counties of selected players, providing joined-up support around player development, readiness and availability.

The role will require availability for relevant pathway camps, assessment days, training blocks and competition periods. Specific dates and delivery expectations will be discussed as part of the recruitment process.

YOU’LL BE DOING

• Design, in collaboration with County physical preparation coaches, pathway coaches, ECB Science, Medicine and Physical Performance staff and county colleagues, and lead the delivery of an outstanding physical development programme for players perceived to have the highest potential to become England Mens cricketers of the future.

• Complete physical profiling of Mens Pathway players in collaboration with ECB staff, ensuring testing and reporting are applied consistently and inform development planning and selection linked to Minimum Fitness Requirements.

• Complete regular monitoring of players using relevant systems and platforms, feeding back to science, medicine and coaching staff to maximise player development and player availability alongside the medical team.

• Provide coaching direction and support, both directly and in partnership with counties at residential training camps, assessment days and competition environments.

• Collaborate and contribute to short and medium-term Player Development Plans for identified players with county, pathway and national staff.

• Monitor the impact and effectiveness of Mens Pathway physical performance support.

• Contribute to a robust review process for Mens Pathway programmes following completion of camps, tours, series or competition blocks.

• Support a joined-up approach between ECB and counties so that player workloads, physical development priorities and return-to-play considerations are appropriately understood and managed.

• Provide on the ground support to ECB Super 4s and the Bunbury Festival

YOU’LL HAVE

• Minimum of 3 years experience of programme design, implementation, management and evaluation for high-potential athletes, ideally within cricket or another high-performance team sport.

• Minimum 3 year’s experience of working in multidisciplinary teams in high-performance sport.

• Excellent knowledge of cricket and the physical demands of the game, with a strong understanding of the demands placed on developing male cricketers.

• Minimum of 3 years experience of working within talent pathway, academy, county, or national performance environments.

• Experience and competent using various sport science technologies including VALD and Catapult

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with exceptional standards of professionalism and integrity.

• Excellent time management and organisational skills, including the ability to connect multiple stakeholders around player support.

• UKSCA accreditation, or an equivalent recognised strength and conditioning qualification.

• Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and Safeguarding Children certification. A DBS disclosure is an impartial and confidential document that details an individual’s criminal record and, where appropriate, gives details of those who are barred from working with children.

• An understanding of the importance of safeguarding and the ability to demonstrate awareness of how to apply best-practice principles in a performance pathway environment.

• High levels of energy and enthusiasm.

• Honesty, tact and a strong will to succeed.

• Excellent IT skills with competent ability using Microsoft Office programmes and relevant athlete management or monitoring systems.

• Full UK driving licence and ability to travel independently.

• A valid first aid certificate.
