Environmental Officer - Mining Compliance

About the Role

Our client is looking for a dedicated Environmental Officer to ensure regulatory compliance and promote sustainable practices within their mining operations near Belfast . This role is essential for safeguarding the environment, managing risks, and maintaining positive community relations. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring environmental management systems, conducting audits, and ensuring that all activities meet stringent legal and company standards. Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and manage environmental management systems (EMS) across mining sites.
• Conduct regular environmental audits and site inspections to ensure compliance with permits and regulations.
• Monitor key environmental parameters such as air quality, water discharge, and noise levels.
• Prepare and submit environmental reports to regulatory bodies and internal management.
• Develop and deliver environmental awareness training programs for site personnel.
• Investigate environmental incidents and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

Requirements

• Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in an environmental compliance role, preferably in the mining or heavy industry sector.
• In-depth knowledge of UK and Northern Ireland environmental legislation.
• Experience with Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and monitoring techniques.
• Strong reporting and analytical skills.
• Ability to work effectively with site teams and external stakeholders.
