Environmental Scientist - Mining Compliance

About the Role

Our client is seeking a diligent Environmental Scientist to ensure compliance with all environmental regulations for their mining operations based out of Belfast . This critical role involves monitoring environmental impacts, developing mitigation strategies, and managing permitting processes. You will work closely with site managers, regulatory bodies, and the community to promote sustainable mining practices. The position requires a blend of fieldwork, data analysis, and strategic planning, operating within a hybrid model that allows for both on-site assessments and remote administrative tasks, supporting operations in Northern Ireland .

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct environmental impact assessments and monitor air, water, and soil quality at mine sites.
• Develop and implement environmental management plans and remediation strategies.
• Ensure compliance with all local, national, and international environmental regulations and permits.
• Liaise with regulatory agencies, stakeholders, and local communities on environmental matters.
• Manage environmental monitoring programs and analyze data to identify trends and potential issues.
• Prepare environmental reports, permit applications, and compliance documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental management, particularly within the mining or heavy industry sector.
• Strong knowledge of environmental legislation and permitting processes in the UK.
• Proficiency in environmental monitoring techniques and data analysis software.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and report-writing skills.
• Ability to conduct fieldwork and work effectively in a hybrid capacity across Belfast and operational sites.
