Environmental Scientist - Mining Compliance

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Environmental Scientist to join their team in Leeds, West Yorkshire , focusing on ensuring compliance with environmental regulations within their mining operations. This role is essential for promoting sustainable mining practices and minimizing the environmental impact of our activities. You will conduct environmental impact assessments, develop mitigation strategies, and monitor site conditions to ensure adherence to all local, national, and international environmental standards. Working from our Leeds office, you will be a key advocate for environmental stewardship in the mining sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) for new and existing mining projects.
• Develop and implement environmental management plans, including strategies for waste management, water quality, and biodiversity.
• Monitor environmental parameters at mining sites, such as air and water quality, noise levels, and soil conditions.
• Ensure mining operations comply with all relevant environmental legislation, permits, and regulations.
• Investigate and report on environmental incidents, developing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Liaise with regulatory bodies, local communities, and internal stakeholders on environmental matters.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental management, with specific experience in the mining or heavy industry sector.
• In-depth knowledge of UK environmental legislation and permitting processes.
• Experience with environmental monitoring techniques and data analysis.
• Strong report writing and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
