Estate Gardener and Grounds Keeper

About the Role

Our client is looking for a meticulous and experienced Estate Gardener and Grounds Keeper to manage the beautiful grounds of a large private estate near Sheffield . This role involves the comprehensive care and maintenance of gardens, lawns, hedgerows, and woodland areas, ensuring they are kept to the highest standards of presentation and horticultural health. You will be responsible for a wide range of gardening tasks, from routine maintenance to planting and landscape development. This is an ideal position for a dedicated individual with a passion for horticulture and a keen eye for detail, working within the stunning landscapes of South Yorkshire .

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain lawns, including mowing, edging, fertilizing, and scarifying.
• Plant and care for flower beds, shrubs, trees, and herbaceous borders, ensuring optimal growth and display.
• Prune hedges and trees to maintain shape, health, and safety.
• Manage irrigation systems and water gardens effectively, especially during dry periods.
• Control weeds, pests, and diseases using appropriate and environmentally friendly methods.
• Operate and maintain gardening machinery, tools, and equipment safely.
• Assist with landscape design implementation and seasonal planting schemes.
• Ensure the overall tidiness and presentation of the estate grounds.

Requirements

• Proven experience in professional gardening or estate management.
• Strong knowledge of plant identification, cultivation, and care.
• Proficiency in using garden machinery such as mowers, strimmers, and hedge trimmers.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to complete tasks.
• Good physical fitness and willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• A genuine passion for gardening and high standards of workmanship.
• Experience with irrigation systems is advantageous.
