Estate Gardener

About the Role

Our client is looking for a dedicated and skilled Estate Gardener to maintain and enhance the beautiful grounds of a prestigious estate in Portsmouth . This role involves the hands-on care of diverse gardens, including formal beds, lawns, and woodland areas, ensuring they are kept to the highest horticultural standards. You will work as part of a small groundskeeping team, contributing to the aesthetic appeal and ecological health of the estate, and playing a key part in preserving the heritage and beauty of the Hampshire landscape.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine garden maintenance tasks, including mowing, edging, weeding, planting, and pruning.
• Care for ornamental plant collections, ensuring optimal health and vibrant displays throughout the seasons.
• Operate and maintain gardening machinery and hand tools safely and efficiently.
• Assist in the development and implementation of planting plans and garden improvements.
• Manage watering systems and ensure efficient water usage.
• Contribute to the upkeep of lawns, borders, hedges, and woodland areas.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a gardener or groundskeeper, preferably in a large estate or similar setting.
• Strong knowledge of plant care, soil types, and seasonal horticultural practices.
• Proficiency in using a range of gardening equipment and tools.
• A keen eye for detail and a passion for maintaining high standards of presentation.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Basic understanding of health and safety principles in a horticultural environment.
