Job Description
European Tech Recruit are working closely with an exciting robotics company, based in Zurich, who are looking for a talented Field Robotics Engineer to join their team and be their first hire in the UK.
Our client operates at the dynamic intersection of hardware, software, and real-world autonomy. Their flagship technology integrates sensing, compute, networking, and communication into a manufacturer-agnostic system deployable across a wide variety of machinery.
As a Field Robotics Engineer , you will bridge the gap between cutting-edge technology and live field operations. Combining hands-on technical troubleshooting with end-to-end project ownership, you will lead customer deployments from initial planning through on-site execution and long-term optimization.
When you aren't traveling to client sites across the Oxford–London corridor (or internationally as needed), you can work remotely or from the Oxford area.
Responsibilities as Field Robotics Engineer:
- Lead Project Execution : Drive customer deployment projects from concept to completion, managing technical planning and execution alongside R&D and Operations.
- On-Site Commissioning : Lead hands-on setup, integration, and field testing to ensure systems deliver maximum reliability and performance in demanding environments.
- Client Technical Engagement : Serve as the primary technical partner for clients, providing clear guidance, system training, and direct support throughout the project lifecycle.
- System Diagnostics & Optimization : Perform rigorous field testing, analyze complex system behaviors, and resolve multi-layered hardware/software issues.
- Continuous Process Improvement : Translate field insights into action by generating performance reports and collaborating with engineering teams to refine deployment tools, workflows, and best practices.
Requirements:
- Education : University degree (BSc, MSc, or Applied Sciences / Fachhochschule) in Robotics, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Field Integration & Debugging : Proven hands-on experience deploying, integrating, and troubleshooting complex robotic software and hardware systems.
- Core Tech Stack : Strong practical knowledge of the ROS / ROS 2 ecosystem, Linux, and Git version control.
- Software Skills : Solid working knowledge of C++ and Python.
- Mobility & License : Valid Category B driving license and full willingness to travel extensively to client sites (including international travel depending on project needs).
- Prior exposure to autonomous heavy machinery, off-highway vehicles, or construction automation.
- Experience with industrial communications, CAN bus networks, or advanced sensor integration (LiDAR, GNSS, Radar, Cameras).
- Background in client-facing technical support or field commissioning roles within deep tech/robotics.
