Financial Controller
Salary: £40,000 - £50,000
Start: Immediate
Location: Crawley
Hours: 8am to 5.00pm, Monday to Friday
The Opportunity:
Our client is looking for an experienced and hands-on Financial Controller to take ownership of the day-to-day finance function and play a key role in the financial management and reporting of the business.
This is an excellent opportunity for an organised and commercially minded finance professional with experience across the full finance cycle, including sales and purchase ledger, credit control, cashflow, banking, payroll, VAT and management accounts. Working closely with senior management, you will provide accurate and timely financial information to support business decisions, while maintaining strong financial controls and processes.
Key Responsibilities
Finance Administration & Ledgers
- Manage the finance inbox and maintain accurate customer and supplier records.
- Manage sales and purchase ledger processes, including invoicing, payments and account reconciliations.
- Oversee credit control, customer queries, debtor reports and statements.
- Process supplier invoices, expenses, payment runs and remittances.
Banking & Cashflow
- Complete daily bank, cash and corporate card reconciliations.
- Manage petty cash and resolve discrepancies.
- Prepare and manage cashflow forecasts, monitoring actual movements against forecast.
Payroll
- Manage monthly payroll payments, including HMRC payments.
- Complete and post payroll journals and ensure records are accurately reconciled.
Management Accounts & Month-End
- Take ownership of the monthly finance close and associated reporting.
- Prepare accruals, prepayments, journals and fixed asset/depreciation entries.
- Prepare and review monthly P&L and Balance Sheet accounts.
- Reconcile customer and supplier rebates and complete month-end checks.
- Finalise and circulate management accounts and commentary to the Board/shareholders.
Year-End & VAT
- Manage year-end finance processes and work with external advisers as required.
- Complete VAT reconciliations, quarterly VAT returns, checks and journals.
About You
We are looking for an experienced finance professional who is confident taking ownership of a busy finance function.
Ideally, you will have:
- Previous experience as a Financial Controller, Finance Manager or in a senior finance position.
- Strong experience across sales and purchase ledger, credit control, banking and reconciliations.
- Proven experience preparing monthly management accounts, P&L and Balance Sheets.
- Experience with cashflow forecasting, payroll and VAT.
- Excellent attention to detail and numerical accuracy.
- Strong Excel and financial systems skills.
- A proactive, hands-on approach with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Excellent communication skills and confidence working with senior management, customers and suppliers.
