Financial Controller

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly competent and experienced Financial Controller to oversee the financial operations of their key business unit based in Southampton . This senior role is responsible for managing all aspects of accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls. You will lead a finance team, ensure compliance with all statutory and regulatory requirements, and provide strategic financial guidance to senior management. The successful candidate will be a key player in driving financial strategy and operational efficiency for the organisation in the vibrant city of Southampton .

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions.
• Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with relevant accounting standards (e.g., IFRS, GAAP).
• Develop and manage the annual budgeting and forecasting processes, working closely with departmental heads.
• Implement and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial integrity.
• Oversee the preparation of tax returns and ensure compliance with all tax regulations.
• Lead and mentor the finance and accounting team, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with a minimum of 7 years post-qualification experience.
• Proven experience as a Financial Controller or in a similar senior finance role, preferably within the banking and finance industry .
• Strong knowledge of financial reporting standards, corporate finance, and treasury functions.
• Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and advanced Excel skills.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management abilities.
• Experience in managing audits and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements in Southampton .
