Financial Controller

About the Role

Our client is looking for a highly competent and experienced Financial Controller to lead their finance department in Stoke-on-Trent . This senior role is responsible for overseeing all financial operations, including accounting, reporting, budgeting, and financial strategy. You will ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data, provide strategic financial insights to senior management, and drive financial performance improvement. This is a key leadership position within the Staffordshire business community, offering significant impact and responsibility within the banking and finance sector .

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and oversee the day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
• Prepare and present accurate and timely financial statements, management reports, and board materials.
• Develop and manage the annual budget process, along with long-term financial planning.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant accounting standards, tax regulations, and financial laws.
• Implement and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard company assets.
• Lead and mentor the finance team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in accounting and financial management.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP/IFRS) and financial reporting.
• Proven experience in financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Experience within the banking or financial services industry in the Stoke-on-Trent area is advantageous.
