About the Role
Our client is seeking an advanced Forestry Data Scientist for a fully remote position, to spearhead the development and application of sophisticated data-driven solutions within the forestry sector. This role requires a unique combination of expertise in data science, machine learning, and a solid understanding of forestry principles. You will be responsible for extracting actionable insights from vast datasets, building predictive models for forest growth and health, and optimizing resource management strategies. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement advanced analytical models, including machine learning algorithms, to predict forest growth, disease outbreaks, and yield forecasts.
- Process and analyze large-scale forestry datasets, including satellite imagery, LiDAR, sensor data, and inventory records.
- Design and build data pipelines for cleaning, transforming, and integrating diverse data sources.
- Create compelling data visualizations and dashboards to communicate complex findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Collaborate with forestry experts to define key performance indicators and analytical objectives.
- Stay current with advancements in data science, AI, and their application within the natural resource sector.
Requirements
- Master's or PhD in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Forestry, or a related quantitative field.
- Proven experience in data science, machine learning, and statistical modeling.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R, and experience with relevant libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
- Experience with database management (SQL/NoSQL) and big data technologies (e.g., Spark).
- Familiarity with remote sensing data and GIS applications is highly desirable.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in a remote setting.
