Forestry Officer

About the Role

Our client is recruiting a dedicated Forestry Officer to manage and conserve forest resources in and around Edinburgh . This role is integral to sustainable forest management, involving the planning and execution of forestry operations, ecological surveys, and public engagement. You will be responsible for ensuring the health of woodland ecosystems, promoting biodiversity, and managing timber resources responsibly. The successful candidate will have a strong background in forestry science and a passion for environmental conservation, working to protect and enhance Scotland's valuable forest assets.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement sustainable forest management plans, including silvicultural operations.
• Conduct ecological surveys to monitor forest health, biodiversity, and environmental impact.
• Oversee tree felling, planting, and reforestation programs in compliance with regulations.
• Manage timber harvesting operations and ensure efficient resource utilization.
• Enforce forestry legislation and guidelines to protect forest ecosystems.
• Engage with landowners, stakeholders, and the public on forestry matters and conservation efforts.

Requirements

• Degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in forestry management or conservation.
• Knowledge of forest ecology, silviculture, and timber harvesting techniques.
• Familiarity with relevant forestry legislation and environmental impact assessment.
• Strong analytical, project management, and communication skills.
