About the Role
Our client is seeking a proactive and experienced Forestry Operations Manager to oversee diverse forestry activities in and around Birmingham, West Midlands . This role is crucial for ensuring the efficient and sustainable management of forest resources, including harvesting, planting, and conservation efforts. You will lead a team of forestry professionals, manage operational budgets, and ensure compliance with all environmental and safety regulations. The ideal candidate will have a passion for conservation and a proven track record in managing large-scale forestry projects, contributing to the ecological health and economic viability of woodland areas in the West Midlands .
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise all aspects of forest operations , including timber harvesting, reforestation, and land management.
- Develop and manage annual operational plans and budgets, ensuring cost-effectiveness and resource optimisation.
- Ensure strict adherence to all health, safety, and environmental regulations and company policies.
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of forestry technicians and field staff, fostering a productive and safe working environment.
- Liaise with landowners, contractors, and regulatory bodies to ensure smooth project execution and compliance.
- Monitor forest health, biodiversity, and the impact of operations, implementing adaptive management strategies as needed.
Requirements
- Degree in Forestry, Environmental Management, or a related discipline.
- Proven experience (5+ years) in managing forestry operations , preferably within the UK.
- In-depth knowledge of forest mensuration, silviculture, and sustainable forest management principles.
- Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
- Familiarity with UK forestry legislation and grant schemes.
