Forestry Operations Supervisor

About the Role

Our client is looking for a diligent Forestry Operations Supervisor to manage and direct all on-the-ground activities for their extensive woodland estates in and around Newcastle upon Tyne . This role is crucial for ensuring sustainable forest management practices, maximizing timber yields, and maintaining the ecological health of the forests. You will lead a team of forestry workers, coordinate with contractors, and ensure all operations meet safety and environmental regulations. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute significantly to the Forestry sector in the North East of England, managing vital natural resources.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise daily forestry operations, including planting, thinning, harvesting, and site restoration.
• Ensure all forestry activities comply with relevant legislation, industry standards, and environmental policies.
• Manage and motivate a team of forestry operatives, ensuring efficient work practices and high safety standards.
• Coordinate with timber harvesting contractors, ensuring quality control and timely delivery of timber products.
• Conduct regular site inspections to monitor forest health, identify potential risks, and assess operational progress.
• Maintain accurate records of operations, including inventory, production, and equipment usage.

Requirements

• Significant experience in forestry operations, with a proven track record in a supervisory capacity.
• In-depth knowledge of sustainable forestry practices, silviculture, and forest mensuration.
• Strong understanding of health and safety regulations within the Forestry industry.
• Excellent leadership, team management, and problem-solving skills.
• Certification or qualification in Forestry or a related land management discipline is highly desirable.
