Forestry Surveyor

About the Role

Our client is seeking a meticulous and experienced Forestry Surveyor to join their team serving the Plymouth area and surrounding regions. You will be responsible for conducting detailed surveys of forest areas, assessing timber volumes, identifying land boundaries, and evaluating forest health and condition. Your work will provide critical data for sustainable forest management, conservation efforts, and timber harvesting planning. This role requires strong fieldwork skills, technical proficiency in surveying, and a solid understanding of forestry principles within the unique landscape of Devon .

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct field surveys to measure and map forest stands, including tree species, diameter, height, and density.
• Estimate timber volumes and assess timber quality for harvest planning and valuation.
• Identify and mark property boundaries and forest compartment lines accurately.
• Assess forest health, identifying signs of disease, pest infestation, or environmental damage.
• Utilize GPS, GIS, and other surveying equipment to collect and record spatial data.
• Prepare detailed survey reports, maps, and spatial data for management and planning purposes.

Requirements

• Degree or qualification in Forestry, Surveying, or a related discipline.
• Proven experience in forestry surveying techniques and methodologies.
• Proficiency in using GPS, GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS), and other relevant surveying tools.
• Strong understanding of forest mensuration and timber cruising.
• Excellent fieldwork skills, including navigation and data collection in challenging terrain.
• Ability to produce clear and accurate technical reports and maps.
