Forestry Technician - Environmental Monitoring

About the Role

Our client is seeking a meticulous Forestry Technician with a focus on environmental monitoring to support their conservation and management efforts in Derby, Derbyshire . This role involves fieldwork to collect data on forest health, biodiversity, water quality, and climate impacts. You will work closely with foresters and environmental scientists to assess the ecological status of forest ecosystems and contribute to sustainable land management strategies. The position requires strong fieldwork skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage and record data accurately. The role offers a blend of field-based work and office-based analysis, allowing for a hybrid work arrangement.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct regular field surveys to monitor forest health, including tree vitality, pest infestations, and disease outbreaks.
• Collect environmental data, such as soil samples, water quality measurements, and biodiversity indicators.
• Operate and maintain monitoring equipment, including GPS devices, data loggers, and sampling tools.
• Accurately record and manage field data using digital data collection systems.
• Assist in the development and implementation of forest management and conservation plans.
• Prepare field reports and contribute to the analysis of collected environmental data.

Requirements

• Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, Ecology, or a related discipline.
• Previous experience in fieldwork, preferably within a forestry or environmental context.
• Proficiency in using GPS devices and mobile data collection applications.
• Knowledge of basic ecological principles and forest survey techniques .
• Ability to work independently in remote outdoor environments and variable weather conditions.
• Good organizational skills and a keen eye for detail in data collection.
