Forestry Worker

About the Role

Our client requires a robust and dedicated Forestry Worker to join their team in the woodlands surrounding Sunderland, Tyne and Wear . This hands-on role involves a range of physical tasks essential for forest management, including planting, thinning, harvesting, and maintaining forest health. You will be working outdoors in various weather conditions, contributing directly to the sustainable management of forest resources. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, a commitment to safety, and a passion for the natural environment and the North East landscape.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform tree planting, replanting, and site preparation activities according to forestry plans.
• Conduct selective tree felling and harvesting operations, ensuring efficient timber extraction.
• Carry out forest thinning and pruning to promote healthy growth and timber quality.
• Operate and maintain forestry equipment, such as chainsaws, chippers, and tractors, safely and effectively.
• Identify and manage forest pests, diseases, and invasive species.
• Assist with the construction and maintenance of forest roads, tracks, and boundaries.

Requirements

• Previous experience in forestry, arboriculture, or a related outdoor manual labor role.
• Proficiency in operating chainsaws and other forestry equipment, with relevant certifications (e.g., NPTC).
• Good physical fitness and the ability to perform demanding tasks in outdoor environments.
• Understanding of basic forestry principles and sustainable woodland management.
• Awareness of health and safety procedures for working in woodland environments.
