Formulation Scientist - Pharmaceutical Development

About the Role

Our client, a forward-thinking pharmaceutical company, is seeking a dedicated Formulation Scientist to join their Drug Product Development team in Plymouth . This role is essential for designing, developing, and optimizing innovative pharmaceutical formulations for both oral and parenteral delivery systems. You will play a key role in transforming drug candidates into stable, effective, and safe medicinal products, working closely with analytical development, manufacturing, and regulatory affairs teams. Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop novel pharmaceutical formulations (e.g., tablets, capsules, injectables) for various therapeutic areas.
• Conduct pre-formulation studies to understand drug substance properties and excipient compatibility.
• Optimize formulations to achieve desired drug release profiles, stability, and bioavailability.
• Develop and execute experimental plans for formulation screening, optimization, and scale-up.
• Characterize formulated products using analytical techniques (e.g., dissolution testing, particle size analysis).
• Prepare technical reports, documentation for regulatory submissions, and present findings to project teams.

Requirements

• Master's or PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmaceutics, Chemistry, or a related discipline.
• Proven experience in pharmaceutical formulation development , preferably with solid dosage forms or parenteral products.
• Strong understanding of physical chemistry, material science, and drug delivery principles.
• Experience with common pharmaceutical excipients and formulation technologies.
• Proficiency in laboratory techniques and analytical instrumentation relevant to formulation development.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, laboratory-based setting.
