Job Description
Functional Skills Tutor - Halton
Location: Halton
Hours: 5-15 hours per week
Start Date: September 2026
Duration: Ongoing
An opportunity is available for an experienced Functional Skills Tutor to support a learner through 1:1 tuition in Halton.
The ideal candidate will be able to deliver accessible, practical lessons and adapt their approach to help the learner make steady progress.
Responsibilities
- Provide individual Functional Skills tuition
- Support development in English and/or Maths
- Assess current strengths and areas for improvement
- Create structured and engaging learning activities
- Reinforce key literacy and numeracy skills
- Encourage learner participation and independence
- Track progress and provide appropriate feedback
What We're Looking For
- Previous teaching or tutoring experience
- Functional Skills experience advantageous
- Strong English and/or Maths knowledge
- Experience supporting young people
- Adaptable and supportive teaching style
- QTS, PGCE or relevant tutoring experience desirable
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply
- Right to Work in the UK
- Two professional references
