Functional Skills Tutor - Halton

Location: Halton Hours: 5-15 hours per week Start Date: September 2026 Duration: Ongoing

Prospero Teaching are recruiting for a Functional Skills Tutor to provide personalised educational support to learners in the Halton area.

We are particularly interested in tutors who can support learners working towards Functional Skills qualifications and who are comfortable adapting sessions to suit different abilities and learning styles.

The Opportunity

You will be responsible for delivering individual tuition designed to improve academic skills, confidence and engagement.

Duties will include:

Delivering structured 1:1 Functional Skills sessions Supporting learners with English and/or Maths Assessing areas for development Creating accessible and engaging learning activities Encouraging learners to develop independent study skills Monitoring progress and providing appropriate feedback

Candidate Requirements

Experience delivering Functional Skills or equivalent tuition Strong knowledge of English and/or Maths Experience supporting children or young people Ability to build rapport with learners Flexible and adaptable approach to teaching QTS, PGCE or relevant tutoring experience desirable Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply Right to Work in the UK Two professional references
