Geotechnical Civil Engineer

About the Role

Our client requires a dedicated Geotechnical Civil Engineer to join their established team based in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear . This role is pivotal in assessing ground conditions and providing expert advice on foundation design, slope stability, and earthworks for a variety of construction projects. You will be responsible for planning and executing site investigations, analysing data, and developing robust geotechnical solutions that ensure the safety and stability of structures. Working on-site and in the office, you will collaborate closely with project managers and construction teams to overcome complex ground-related challenges and deliver successful projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and supervise ground investigations, including boreholes, trial pits, and in-situ testing.
• Analyse geotechnical data and prepare comprehensive ground investigation reports.
• Design foundations, retaining walls, and earthworks, considering soil mechanics and structural loads.
• Assess slope stability and recommend remediation strategies.
• Ensure compliance with relevant geotechnical standards, codes of practice, and health & safety regulations.
• Liaise with clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities on geotechnical matters throughout the project lifecycle.

Requirements

• A degree in Civil Engineering or a related geotechnical field.
• Significant experience in geotechnical engineering, including site investigation, data analysis, and design.
• Proficiency in geotechnical software packages for analysis and modelling.
• Strong knowledge of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and foundation engineering principles.
• Excellent report writing and communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
• Full UK driving license and willingness to travel to various project sites.
