About the Role
Our client is seeking a skilled Geotechnical Engineer to join their expanding team in Manchester . This role is crucial for assessing ground conditions and providing expert advice on the stability and design of mining structures and excavations. You will play a key part in ensuring the safety and integrity of our mining projects, from initial feasibility studies through to construction and operation. Working in a hybrid capacity, you will balance office-based analysis and reporting with essential site visits to various project locations across the UK, contributing to the successful planning and execution of diverse mining and infrastructure developments, vital for the region's ongoing development.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct geotechnical investigations, including site reconnaissance, soil/rock sampling, and in-situ testing.
- Analyze geotechnical data to assess soil and rock mechanics, slope stability, and foundation design parameters.
- Develop design recommendations for foundations, retaining structures, tunnels, and open-pit slopes.
- Prepare comprehensive geotechnical reports, including risk assessments and mitigation strategies.
- Oversee and interpret the results of laboratory testing on soil and rock samples.
- Provide technical support and guidance to project teams during the construction and operational phases.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Geotechnical Engineering.
- Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering, with specific exposure to mining or civil infrastructure projects.
- Proficiency in geotechnical analysis software (e.g., PLAXIS, SLOPE/W, GEO-5).
- Solid understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and engineering geology principles.
- Experience with site investigation techniques and interpretation of ground investigation data.
- Excellent report writing and communication skills, with the ability to present technical findings clearly.
