The Role – Graduate Software Engineer

We are seeking an ambitious Graduate Software Engineer to join our development team. This broad, rewarding role centres on full-stack application development, building good habits around testing and code quality from day one. You will also get hands-on experience with physical systems, contributing to the operational readiness of our live IoT hardware environment.

Supported closely by our Head of IT and Software Lead, this position is designed to accelerate your growth into a well-rounded Engineer with skills across Software, DevOps, and IoT infrastructure.

This position is fully office based at our site in Rushden, Northamptonshire

Key Responsibilities

Software Development

• Design, develop, and maintain software applications using Python, C#, Java, HTML, and CSS.

• Partner with the Software Lead and wider engineering team across the entire development lifecycle.

• Contribute directly to technical discussions and sprint planning sessions.

• Work with databases supporting backend reporting and application functionality.

IoT & Hardware Operations

• Build, configure, and maintain IoT devices and custom application, ensuring reliable integration with our software suite.

• Oversee the preparation and deployment readiness of physical hardware, keeping accurate asset and inventory records.

Code Quality & Testing

• Write and maintain test cases (unit, integration, and/or manual) for the code you develop, as part of everyday good engineering practice.

• Get exposure to our automated CI/CD pipelines and contribute improvements as your confidence grows

• Support the Software Lead in monitoring service uptime and investigating live issues, building experience in root-cause analysis over time.

Essential Requirements

• A bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or software engineering

• Foundational proficiency or academic experience in Python, C#, and/or Java.

• A working knowledge of writing queries and understanding basic database schema design.

• Comfort working across both Windows and Linux environments.

• Strong analytical problem-solving skills and an eagerness to learn.

Desirable

• Exposure to or a theoretical understanding of CI/CD automated pipelines and deployment workflows

• Experience writing test cases (e.g. unit tests, integration tests) as part of academic projects or personal work
