Grid Modernization Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a forward-thinking Grid Modernization Engineer to join their team in Portsmouth . This critical role focuses on enhancing the reliability, resilience, and efficiency of the electrical grid through the implementation of smart grid technologies, advanced analytics, and renewable energy integration. You will work on projects that are shaping the future of energy infrastructure, ensuring it can meet the demands of a changing energy landscape. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategies for grid modernization , including the integration of smart meters, sensors, and communication networks.
• Analyze grid performance data to identify areas for improvement and optimize system reliability.
• Design and engineer solutions for integrating distributed energy resources (DERs) such as solar, wind, and battery storage into the grid.
• Collaborate with control center operators, field crews, and IT specialists to ensure seamless implementation of new technologies.
• Evaluate and recommend new technologies and approaches to enhance grid resilience against cyber threats and physical disruptions.
• Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements for grid modernization projects.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Power Systems.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in power systems engineering, with a focus on smart grid technologies or grid modernization.
• Proven experience with SCADA systems, Distribution Management Systems (DMS), and Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI).
• Strong understanding of grid operations, power flow analysis, and protection systems.
• Experience with the integration of renewable energy sources and energy storage systems.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
