About the Role

Our client is seeking a forward-thinking Grid Modernization Engineer to join their dedicated team in Leeds, West Yorkshire, UK . This role is central to upgrading and enhancing the electricity grid to support the integration of renewable energy sources and improve overall system resilience and efficiency. You will be involved in the design, implementation, and testing of smart grid technologies, working within a hybrid model that encourages team synergy while offering flexibility. Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop specifications for grid modernization projects, including substation automation and smart metering.
• Analyze grid performance data to identify areas for improvement and implement solutions for increased reliability.
• Oversee the integration of new technologies such as SCADA systems, FACTS devices, and advanced distribution management systems (ADMS).
• Collaborate with regulatory bodies and utility partners to ensure compliance and effective project execution.
• Provide technical support and expertise during the installation, commissioning, and operational phases of grid modernization initiatives.
• Research emerging technologies and best practices in grid modernization to inform future strategy.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in power systems engineering, with a focus on grid operations or modernization.
• Solid understanding of power system analysis , protection schemes, and control systems.
• Experience with smart grid technologies , distributed generation, and energy storage systems.
• Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations (e.g., NERC CIP).
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid work environment , balancing independent work with team collaboration.
