Job Description
Centreless Grinder / Toolmaker
Location: Kent / Essex Border
Salary: £30,000 – £35,000
Working Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Thursday (4‑day week)
Position Type: Full time
Core Skills & Attributes
- Strong understanding of aerospace standards.
- Experience setting and running manual and centreless grinders.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Measurement skills: proficient in reading micrometre and working to tight tolerances (0.5 µm).
- Team player with effective communication to support company policies and goals.
- Attention to detail, numeracy, and quality performance.
Duties
- Set and run centreless grinders, including Wickman Scrivener, Ghiringhelli, Cincinnati, or Tschadun (essential).
- Operate Myford grinder (desirable).
- Support 2nd operations machines safely, such as thread‑rolling, part markers, drill banks, torque testers and deburrers.
- Carry out first‑off and job‑run inspections of 2nd operation machine parts.
- Conduct buddy checks and inspections of 1st and 2nd operation machine parts.
- Report scrap/rework and suggest efficiencies to the Production Manager.
- Maintain machine efficiency to meet on‑time deliveries, arrears, parts per hour (PPH) and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Manufacture high‑quality products in line with agreed standards and procedures.
- Complete daily maintenance check sheets and cycle timesheets.
- Ensure a safe and clean working environment at all times.
