Head of Community Sport

About the Role

Our client is seeking an enthusiastic and results-driven Head of Community Sport to champion the expansion of grassroots sports programs throughout Reading and surrounding areas. This hands-on role focuses on developing and implementing inclusive sports initiatives that increase community participation, health, and well-being. You will work closely with local authorities, schools, clubs, and volunteers to build a thriving sports ecosystem within the Leisure & Sports sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute strategic plans for community sports development, ensuring programmes are accessible, diverse, and meet local needs.
• Build and nurture strong partnerships with local councils, schools, sports clubs, and community groups in Reading .
• Oversee the delivery of a wide range of sports activities and events, promoting participation across all age groups and abilities.
• Manage budgets, secure funding through grants and sponsorships, and ensure the financial sustainability of community sports projects.
• Recruit, train, and manage a team of sports development officers and volunteers, fostering a positive and effective working environment.
• Monitor and evaluate the impact of programmes, collecting data and reporting on key performance indicators to stakeholders.

Requirements

• Minimum of 6 years of experience in community sports development or a related field.
• Proven track record in strategic planning, programme delivery, and partnership building within the sports sector.
• Strong understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing community sports organisations.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills.
• Experience in managing budgets and fundraising from various sources.
• A degree in Sports Management, Community Development, or a related field is desirable.
