About the Role

Our client, a forward-thinking secondary school in Derby , is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Head of Department for Geography . This leadership role is key to driving forward the geography curriculum, inspiring both students and staff, and ensuring high standards of teaching and learning. You will manage a dedicated team of geography teachers, oversee curriculum development, and contribute to the school's strategic vision. The successful candidate will have a passion for geography and a proven ability to lead and inspire within an educational setting, fostering a deep understanding of our world among students.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Geography department, including staff performance and development.
• Develop and implement an engaging and challenging Geography curriculum for all key stages.
• Monitor student progress and attainment in Geography, implementing strategies for improvement.
• Promote the subject of Geography throughout the school and encourage student participation in related activities.
• Ensure effective resource management and allocation within the department.

Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a degree in Geography or a related field.
• Significant experience teaching Geography at secondary level, with some leadership experience.
• In-depth knowledge of the national curriculum and assessment requirements for Geography.
• Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
