About the Role

Our client is seeking an accomplished and enthusiastic Head of English and Literature to lead the department at a thriving secondary school in Stoke-on-Trent . This leadership position is responsible for fostering a deep appreciation and understanding of English language and literature among students across all key stages. You will guide curriculum development, mentor English teachers, and ensure the provision of engaging and rigorous instruction. This role is ideal for an experienced educator passionate about the power of language and literature to inspire and educate students in Staffordshire .

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the English and Literature department, promoting academic excellence.
• Develop and implement an inspiring curriculum that covers diverse literary genres and linguistic analysis.
• Mentor and support English teachers, fostering their professional growth and pedagogical skills.
• Oversee the assessment of student work and progress in English and Literature.
• Promote reading for pleasure and critical engagement with texts across the school.

Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
• A degree in English, Literature, or a related field.
• Substantial experience teaching English at secondary level, with demonstrated leadership capacity.
• In-depth knowledge of the national curriculum for English and literature study.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
