About the Role

Our client is seeking an accomplished and visionary Head of English to lead the English faculty at a highly respected secondary school in Bristol . This leadership role is responsible for guiding the curriculum, fostering a love of literature and language, and ensuring outstanding teaching and learning across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5. You will manage a team of passionate English teachers, drive pedagogical innovation, and contribute to the school's overall academic strategy. Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the English department, promoting excellence in teaching and learning of English language and literature.
• Develop and oversee a dynamic and engaging English curriculum, ensuring alignment with national standards and examination requirements.
• Mentor and support English teachers, conducting performance reviews and facilitating professional development.
• Monitor student progress, analyse data, and implement strategies to enhance attainment in English at all key stages.
• Contribute to school-wide initiatives and strategic planning as part of the wider leadership team.

Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a strong academic background in English.
• Proven experience in a leadership role within an English department at secondary level.
• In-depth knowledge of English literature, language, and pedagogy, including curriculum for GCSE and A-Level.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
• A commitment to fostering a passion for reading, writing, and critical analysis in students in Bristol .
