Location: Derbyshire (Office Based, 5 Days per Week)
Hours: Full Time, Permanent
Reporting to: Managing Directors

The Opportunity

A successful and growing family-owned business in Derbyshire is seeking a commercially minded Head of Finance to lead the finance function and support the next phase of growth.

This is a hands-on role suited to an experienced finance professional who enjoys operating across all areas of finance, from day-to-day operations through to strategic planning. Working closely with the Managing Directors, you will provide financial leadership, commercial insight and support key business decisions.

For the right individual, there is a genuine opportunity to progress into a Finance Director role.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management

• Lead the finance function and oversee daily financial operations.
• Produce accurate monthly management accounts and reporting.
• Prepare budgets, forecasts and cashflow projections.
• Monitor working capital and overall business performance.
• Deliver financial analysis and commentary to support decision-making.
• Develop and maintain effective financial controls and processes.

Reporting & Compliance

• Manage year-end accounts and liaise with external accountants and auditors.
• Oversee VAT returns and statutory reporting requirements.
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
• Maintain accurate financial records and reporting systems.

Costing & Profitability

• Develop and manage costing models across the business.
• Analyse product, service, project and customer profitability.
• Monitor margins and identify opportunities to improve performance.
• Review operational costs and recommend cost-saving initiatives.
• Support pricing decisions, tenders and contract reviews.
• Provide detailed costing and financial modelling for new business opportunities.

Commercial & Strategic Support

• Partner with senior stakeholders across the business.
• Provide financial insight to support growth plans and investment decisions.
• Analyse trends, risks and opportunities.
• Support business planning and strategic initiatives.
• Drive continuous improvement and operational efficiencies.

Team Leadership

• Lead, mentor and develop the finance team.
• Promote high standards of accuracy, accountability and service.
• Build strong relationships across all departments.

About You

• ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified, or qualified by experience.
• Experienced in a Finance Manager, Financial Controller or Head of Finance role.
• Strong technical accounting and commercial finance skills.
• Experienced in management accounting, forecasting and cashflow management.
• Strong costing, margin analysis and profitability experience.
• Proven ability to work within a fast-paced SME environment.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Highly organised, proactive and detail-oriented.
• Ambitious and keen to develop into a Finance Director role.
