Head of Legal - Technology & Data

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Head of Legal to lead their legal function, with a strong emphasis on Technology and Data law. This is a fully remote, senior leadership position responsible for overseeing all legal aspects related to the company's technology, data privacy, intellectual property, and digital transformation initiatives. You will provide strategic legal counsel to the executive team, manage a small legal team (if applicable), and ensure the company operates within legal and regulatory frameworks globally. This is a pivotal opportunity for a seasoned legal professional to shape the legal strategy of a forward-thinking technology company.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage all legal aspects of technology procurement, software licensing, and SaaS agreements.
• Develop and oversee the company's data protection and privacy strategy, ensuring global compliance.
• Manage the intellectual property portfolio, including patents, trademarks, and copyrights.
• Advise on cybersecurity, data breaches, and regulatory investigations.
• Provide strategic legal guidance on M&A, partnerships, and other corporate transactions.
• Liaise with external counsel and manage legal budgets effectively.
• Develop and mentor junior legal staff and support functions.

Requirements

• Qualified solicitor or barrister with 10+ years of experience, with significant expertise in technology, IP, and data privacy law.
• Proven experience in a senior legal role, preferably within a technology-focused organization.
• Deep understanding of GDPR, CCPA, and other international data protection regulations.
• Strong commercial acumen and the ability to provide strategic, business-oriented legal advice.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills, adept at remote leadership.
