About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced and dynamic educator to lead the Modern Languages department as Head of Department at a prestigious independent school in Edinburgh . This leadership role involves overseeing the teaching and learning of languages, fostering a vibrant international ethos, and inspiring both students and staff. You will drive curriculum innovation and pedagogical excellence across French, Spanish, German, and other languages offered, contributing to the academic and cultural enrichment of the student body within Scotland , working in close collaboration with other department heads and the senior leadership team.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, manage, and inspire the Modern Languages department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning.
• Develop and implement a challenging and engaging curriculum for all taught languages.
• Oversee the assessment and examination of Modern Languages at all key stages, including N5, Higher, and Advanced Higher levels.
• Promote the study of languages and cultural understanding throughout the school.
• Support the professional development of language teachers within the department.
• Manage departmental budgets and resources effectively.

Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a relevant degree in a Modern Language.
• Significant experience in teaching Modern Languages at secondary level, with some leadership experience.
• Proven ability to lead and motivate a team of teachers.
• A deep understanding of language acquisition and pedagogy.
• Excellent communication, organisational, and strategic planning skills.
• A commitment to fostering an international outlook within a school in Edinburgh .
