About the Role

Our client is looking for an accomplished and forward-thinking Head of Science Department to lead their dedicated science faculty in Manchester . This senior leadership position requires an individual with a strong vision for science education, capable of inspiring both students and staff. You will be responsible for the strategic direction, curriculum development, and overall academic performance of the science department across all key stages. The successful candidate will play a critical role in fostering a culture of scientific inquiry, innovation, and excellence within the school and the wider Greater Manchester community.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the science department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning across all science subjects.
• Develop and implement a progressive and engaging science curriculum that meets national standards and inspires student curiosity.
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of teaching and learning, providing constructive feedback and professional development opportunities for staff.
• Oversee departmental budgets, resource allocation, and the maintenance of science laboratories and equipment.
• Promote science subjects through engaging initiatives, extracurricular activities, and links with external organisations.
• Contribute to the wider school's strategic planning and senior leadership team discussions.

Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a relevant science degree (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Physics).
• Significant experience as a Head of Department or in a similar leadership role within science education.
• Demonstrated success in improving student outcomes in science.
• Strong understanding of current educational policy and best practices in science pedagogy.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and strategic planning skills.
