Head of Sports Science & Medicine

About the Role

Our client is looking for an accomplished and visionary Head of Sports Science & Medicine to lead their integrated performance support services in Sheffield . This senior role will oversee all aspects of sports science, sports medicine, strength and conditioning, and physiotherapy, ensuring a holistic approach to athlete health, injury prevention, and performance enhancement within the Leisure & Sports context. You will lead a multidisciplinary team, drive research initiatives, and collaborate closely with coaching staff to optimize athlete potential and well-being.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the sports science and medicine department, including staff recruitment, development, and performance.
• Develop and implement evidence-based protocols for athlete health monitoring, injury prevention, and rehabilitation.
• Oversee strength and conditioning programs, ensuring they are aligned with the needs of different sports and athletes.
• Integrate sports science principles into daily training practices and performance strategies.
• Foster collaboration and communication among sports scientists, medical staff, coaches, and athletes.
• Drive research and innovation within the department, contributing to the advancement of sports performance knowledge.

Requirements

• Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or DSc) in Sports Science, Exercise Physiology, or a related field.
• Extensive experience (7+ years) in leading sports science and medicine departments at an elite level.
• Expertise in multiple domains, including physiology, biomechanics, strength and conditioning, and clinical sports medicine.
• Proven ability to manage and develop high-performing multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong track record of research, publication, and presenting at international conferences.
