What You’ll Be Doing

As Health and Safety Manager, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering the council’s safety strategy. You’ll:

• Lead health and safety initiatives across council departments, services, and public-facing operations
• Champion wellbeing and safe working practices for staff, contractors, and the wider community
• Embed robust safety and risk frameworks that support organisational resilience and service delivery
• Drive cultural change—moving beyond compliance to proactive engagement and ownership of safety
• Harness data and digital tools to deliver smarter, more efficient safety solutions
• Support major transformation programmes and service redesigns with expert safety input
• Act as deputy to the Head of Safety and contribute to emergency planning and incident coordination

What You’ll Bring

We’re looking for a confident and capable safety leader who:

• Holds Chartered IOSH status and/or NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent Level 6 qualification)
• Has experience in complex, multi-service environments—ideally within local government or wider public sector
• Demonstrates a track record of developing forward-thinking policies and smarter ways of working
• Communicates effectively across all levels, from frontline teams to senior leadership
• Is passionate about making safety a strategic enabler of public service excellence
