Health and Safety Officer - Mining Sector

About the Role

Our client is seeking a diligent and proactive Health and Safety Officer to join their mining operations in Bristol, South West England . This role is paramount in ensuring a safe working environment for all personnel involved in mining activities, from site exploration to operational phases. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and enforcing comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures, conducting risk assessments, and promoting a strong safety culture across all sites. This is an essential role for safeguarding our workforce and ensuring compliance with stringent industry standards, operating from our Bristol hub.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain the company's Health and Safety Management System.
• Conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and recommend control measures.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, determining root causes and implementing corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver health and safety training programs for all employees and contractors.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety legislation, regulations, and industry best practices.
• Promote a proactive safety culture through engagement, communication, and leadership.
• Advise management on health and safety matters and contribute to strategic safety planning.

Requirements

• NEBOSH National General Certificate or equivalent qualification in Health and Safety.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in a Health and Safety role, preferably within the mining, construction, or heavy industry sectors.
• Proven experience in developing and implementing health and safety policies and procedures.
• Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation.
• Excellent communication, influencing, and training skills.
• Ability to conduct thorough risk assessments and incident investigations.
